Strength
Kettlebell Strict Press
With a two-hand assisted rack setup, press overhead without leg drive, then lower to the rack. Up and down counts as one repetition on that side.

Get ready
- Check overhead and side clearance before lifting; stand with feet around hip width on a dry, nonslip floor.
- Place the bell between your feet. Bend hips and knees, grip the handle with the working hand and support the bell with the other hand. Lift it close to the body into the rack: bell against the outer forearm, wrist straight, elbow near the ribs. Stand steady, then remove the assisting hand. A clean is not required.
How to do it
- Brace your trunk, keep ribs over pelvis and knees still. Press the bell upward, allowing the shoulder blade to move naturally, until the elbow is straight and the hand is above the shoulder.
- Keep the wrist straight and do not arch your back to reach overhead. Breathe out during the press; lower slowly to the same rack while breathing in.
Finish the movement
- From the rack, support the bell with your other hand, lower it close to the body and bend hips and knees to place it on the floor. Reset on the other side only after it is stable.
Make it easier
- Rehearse overhead reach without the bell; with the bell, use only a controlled pain-free pressing range.
Make it harder
- Lower slowly and pause in a secure rack before the next strict press; do not add leg drive.
Common mistakes
- Bending the knees to launch the bell, arching the lower back, leaning sideways or forcing a painful overhead position.
When to stop or adjust
- End the set if grip slips, control or balance is lost, or pain, numbness or dizziness appears. Set the bell down under control before resting.
- End the press if you cannot keep the bell stable overhead with a straight wrist and a comfortable shoulder.
